I remember the first time I heard about European Master Certification.
I had sat down with Hitomi Gilliam after having her in Washington DC for a 3-day design program. She told me about a program that she and Tomas De Bruyne were working on that would bring European Floral Design to North America. It would give us the opportunity to learn what we as Americans were yearning for—a change in our way of designing. That was over 5 years ago. Even then, I was continually searching for new ways to bring education to my area.
I waited until 2015 to check out what EMC was about when I signed up for "Intimate to Ultimate" with EMC in Atlanta. That experience changed my life. I knew then, that I had to take the EMC Core Program. That fall, I took the Part I Program in Connecticut. That 5-day class was a game-changer!
"I'm not sure I can do this" I told Tomas on Day 2 of the class. I was struggling with all that I had to learn and re-program my brain to think in a new way.
He looked at me and said: "You can do it. Take what you already know and put it in a separate compartment. Learn what I am teaching you this week. Apply it to your daily work and finish out the course. Once you are done, take this and add what you set aside and you will start to see your own style emerge."
That's what I did. I took the whole course, not just Part I, but Self-Practicum to follow and ultimately the Advanced Part II. Now the confidence is there and I'm forever changed.
But don't just listen to my story, there are countless other graduates that have similar stories. Find them, ask them!
If I could do this, I know you can, too. I've seen what gets results—and I'd love to share it with you.
